XFormer Pilates is a low-impact, full-body workout performed on the XFormer — a spring-loaded Pilates machine with a sliding carriage. Using slow, controlled, resistance-based movement, it works every major muscle group in about 50 minutes to build strength, stability, and lean muscle, while staying gentle on the joints.
XFormer Pilates — a modern, machine-based form of Pilates that combines spring resistance and continuous time under tension for a high-intensity yet low-impact workout. Taught exclusively at Remix Modern Pilates in downtown Boca Raton, Florida.
Unlike traditional mat Pilates, XFormer classes are built entirely around the machine. The adjustable resistance lets the same movement scale from a first-timer to an athlete, so a single class challenges every level in the room — which is exactly why Remix is an XFormer-only studio.
What is the XFormer machine?
The XFormer is an advanced Pilates machine with a moving carriage that slides along a track against adjustable spring resistance. That resistance — combined with a longer range of motion than a mat — is what makes each exercise more athletic and intense than traditional Pilates.
Because the carriage moves smoothly and you control the tempo, the intensity comes from muscle tension rather than impact. There is no jumping and no pounding on your joints, which is why XFormer works so well for a wide range of ages and fitness levels — including people cross-training around a knee, hip, or back that can't take high-impact cardio.
What XFormer Pilates does for your body
- Builds full-body strength — every class targets your core, legs, glutes, arms, and back through resistance-based movement.
- Sculpts lean muscle — slow, controlled reps create time under tension that tones and defines rather than bulks.
- Low-impact on joints — smooth, continuous motion means serious results without the pounding of high-impact workouts.
- Improves core, balance & posture — the moving carriage constantly challenges your stability.
- Efficient — a complete full-body workout in about 50 minutes.
Is XFormer the same as reformer Pilates?
Not quite. Both use a moving carriage and spring resistance, but the XFormer is designed for continuous time under tension and a more intense, athletic full-body burn, while a classic reformer session is often slower and more rehab-oriented. If you're deciding between them, we break it down in detail here: XFormer vs. Reformer Pilates →

What is the XFormer machine?
The XFormer is an advanced Pilates machine with a moving carriage and adjustable spring resistance. That resistance, combined with a longer range of motion, makes each exercise more athletic and intense than traditional mat Pilates — while the smooth, controlled motion keeps it low-impact and joint-friendly.
Is XFormer Pilates good for beginners?
Yes. XFormer Pilates is beginner-friendly because every movement is slow, controlled, and fully guided. At Remix, classes are capped at 10 machines so instructors set up your XFormer and coach your form. Most new clients start with the Two Weeks Unlimited intro offer.
How is XFormer Pilates different from reformer Pilates?
Both use a moving carriage and spring resistance, but the XFormer is designed for continuous time under tension and a more intense, athletic full-body burn, while a classic reformer session tends to be more rehab-oriented and slower-paced. Remix is an XFormer-only studio.
How often should I do XFormer Pilates?
Two to four classes a week is the sweet spot for most people to build strength and see visible results, while staying low-impact enough to recover between sessions. Beginners often start with two a week and build from there.
