My Go-To Post-Reformer Recovery Rituals
As told to Remix:
Remix student, Devon Monroe, knows that what happens after class is just as important as the workout itself. To stay strong, consistent, and energized, she leans on a simple but intentional post-Pilates recovery routine.
Here’s how Devon recovers after a Reformer session at Remix:
1. The Cool Down You Don’t Skip
When there’s time after class, I like to stay for a few extra stretches before heading out. A gentle spinal twist, legs up the wall, or just lying still with one hand on my belly and one on my heart helps me ground before moving into the rest of my day. That moment of stillness really goes a long way.
2. Hydrate Like You Mean It
Before class, I try to drink at least 16 ounces of water to feel prepped and energized. Afterward, hydration is still a priority. I usually go for water, but if I’m feeling a little off, I’ll add LMNT. It’s a clean electrolyte mix that helps me feel more balanced, especially after a deeper, core-focused session. Citrus Salt is the one I reach for most, and I usually have a packet or two in my bag.
3. Breathe to Recover
Post-class is the perfect time to reset your nervous system. I like to do a few rounds of box breathing – inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. It takes less than two minutes and helps shift me out of high gear. Some days I’ll even sit in my car for a moment to let everything settle before driving off.
4. Refuel with the Good Stuff
After class, I like to grab something nourishing to keep my energy up and support recovery. Garden Butcher is my go-to. If I’m in the mood for something light and refreshing, I’ll grab the Strawberry Glow smoothie. On hungrier days, one of their wraps always hits the spot. Everything is made with clean, seasonal ingredients, which makes it easy to feel good about whatever I’m reaching for.
5. The Optional Ocean Dip (Highly Recommended)
If I have a little extra time, nothing beats a jump in the ocean. It cools down the body, calms the mind, and feels like the ultimate reward after a strong class. There’s something about saltwater and sunshine that just makes everything feel more balanced.
Final Thoughts
Recovery doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. A little intention makes a big difference. Stretch, hydrate, breathe, refuel, reset. The more I take care of myself after class, the better I feel every time I step back onto the Reformer.
